On this day in 2005 Peter Crouch ended his 18-game goal drought, helping the Reds to a 3-0 win over Wigan.
After the clock struck the 11th minute at Anfield, in the clash against the Latics, it had been 24 hours of game time without a goal for club and county. However it seemed Crouch’s luck was about to change. After his first strike was helped in by the Wigan goalkeeper, the big striker made sure there was no such ambiguity the second time around.
Just before half time Crouch doubled his tally for the day and the home side’s lead with a brilliant lofted shot finding its way over the advancing keeper and into the net. Luis Garcia would see the game put to bed on the 70th minute as he grabbed Liverpool’s third, securing all three points for the reigning European champions.
