On this day in 2010 Maxi Rodriguez made his Liverpool debut in a 1-1 draw at Stoke.

Signing for the Reds for free on January 13 2010 from Spanish side Atletico Madrid, Maxi Rodriguez made his debut just three days later when Rafa Benitez’s men paid a visit to Stoke City in the Premier League. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos scoring Liverpool’s only goal that day, with Maxi only appearing as a sub with less than 15 minutes remaining.

The Argentinian took his time making an impact at Liverpool but as a highly rated play maker who had represented his country at international level once he found his stride he became a great addition to a struggling Liverpool side. Throughout his time at Anfield Maxi made a total of 73 appearances for the Reds, scoring 17 goals in that time, most notably grabbing two hat-tricks in three games against Birmingham City and Fulham respectively. Maxi left Liverpool at the end of the 2011/12 season to return to Argentinian side Newell’s Old Boys, having won the League cup that season against Cardiff City.
