As always when I (YM) take over the OTD for the day, we’re gonna go with a current-ish result/event and then we’re gonna throw it all the way back with a historic result from pre the 1900’s.
Liverpool’s push towards the Premier League title in 2002 saw them go to Elland Road to face Leeds United. The results wasn’t exactly what Leeds wanted but the 0-4 was what Liverpool deserved in the end. An own goal by eventual Man Utd player Rio Ferdinand gave Liverpool the lead while Emile Heskey added 2 to make it 0-3 to the Reds. The game was topped off by a 4th courtesy of Michael Owen. The result saw Liverpool rise to 3rd in the table.
So…shall we take it all the way back? I think we should. 1894 to be exact. Opponents being Northwich Victoria and the result being 4-0. At half time, the game was already to put to bed when Liverpool went into the break with a 3-0 lead in front of 3,000 hardcore Reds fans at Anfield. Goals from Duncan McLean, 2 from Jimmy Stott and a final goal from Harry Bradshaw saw Liverpool win the 2nd Divison game quite comfortably.
