A new series starting up on KTTK which has been tentatively named “Keep or Sell”. Adding to the basic nature of a Squad Profile and voicing my opinions on the positive imact the player has on Liverpool and whether, in the long run, the player should remain a Liverpool player or if Liverpool should cash in on the player ASAP. First in the firing lines is…Simon Mignolet.

Simon Mignolet signed for Liverpool when Brendan Rodgers was in charge of Liverpool during the Summer of 2013. An £8mil fee from Sunderland and was the goalkeeper during the push for the Title in 2013/14. The Belgian is known for his shot stopping ability which makes him a good keeper for a penalty situation. That, at this current moment in time, is one of very few positives regarding to Mignolet. Shot stopping from point blank has not stopped Liverpool conceding a record number of goal in the past few seasons where Mignolet has been the GK. This, of course, is not solely Mignolet’s fault and it would be cruel to the Belgian to make it seem like it is but he is one of many problems that Liverpool have had in almost the past five seasons. A poor run of defensive partnerships which have not developed properly have left Liverpool simmering between 5th and 7th but under Jurgen Klopp, this could be so much more. The question becomes whether Liverpool should stick or twist with the Belgian shot stopper…

In my opinion, Liverpool should sell. In Matip, Liverpool have a ball playing CB that is superb acquisition. In Clyne, one of the best RB’s in the league. Lovren and Milner make the rest of the back line but Milner is only a placeholder at the moment as Klopp has lost faith with other players and Lovren, well…we’ll get on to him in another instalment. Matip and Clyne could fit into our rival’s teams perfectly, the same cannot be said for Mignolet. With the Belgian having recently signed a new contract, it increases his value in the Transfer Market. Liverpool have purchased a replacement for the GK already in Karius so this Summer, I think it may be Simon’s final Summer as Liverpool player.
