A goalkeeper that has not actually made an appearance for Liverpool since signing and is also a 39 year old… Alex Manninger is an Austrian international and was signed from Augsburg in the Summer of 2016. The former Arsenal man was bought to be almost a Player/Coach to the current crop of keepers which includes the aforementioned Mignolet and Karius. Having a short term contract with Liverpool anyway, it seems the man himself knows his days are numbered and will soon take up a role alongside Klopp in his backroom staff. So… Stick or Twist?
Both: Twist in terms of not having Manninger as a squad player but Stick in having the man take up a role in the backroom staff. He would be someone that the players look up to especially seeing as Klopp bought him in specifically for this type of role. Having been playing in England before with Arsenal, the player is aware of what it takes to be a Premier League goalkeeper and could be someone that Karius in particular, can look up to and learn from.
