On this day in 2015 the Reds beat Spurs in a 3-2 thriller at Anfield.
Serbian youngster Lazar Markovic opened the scoring on the night, giving Brendan Rodgers’ men a 1-0 lead after just 15 minutes gone. Though it wasn’t long until Spurs equalised as England frontman Harry Kane levelled the scoring on the 26 minute mark. The half ended with the two sides level after a hard fought 45 minutes of football.
Into the second half and it was the Liverpool skipper who struck first in the second period, converting from the penalty spot and netting his 183rd Liverpool goal, putting the midfielder level with Robbie Fowler in the Reds goalscoring charts. Spurs pulled themselves level minutes after through Moussa Dembele. As the game progressed into the final 10 minutes at 2-2 it seemed neither team were likely to make a breakthrough. However, Liverpool outcast Mario Balotelli, introduced as a substitute, couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first goal since October. The Italian hitman delivered all 3 points to the Reds as his goal gave his side a 3-2 win following a tense contest against Spurs.
