On This Day in 1982 former Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert was born.

Following the departure of one Luis Suarez in the 2014 summer transfer window, Liverpool were in need of a new striker to fill the boot of the Barcelona bound Uruguayan hitman. After enjoying a prosperous 2013/14 campaign with a resurgent Southampton side, Rickie Lambert made the trip from the south coast to Merseyside alongside two of his Saints teammates (Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana) with the hopes of adding to the title challenging Liverpool side of 2013/14.

Having been let go from Liverpool at just 15-years-old in 1997, Lambert’s return to his boyhood club was storybook in nature, though his joyous return to Liverpool was short lived. Throughout the course of the 2014/15 season Lambert made just 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring 3 goals in that time. After his debut season in Red, Lambert was sold to West Brom. Although his time in a Liverpool shirt was far from memorable, it remains a touching story that Rickie was able to finally play for his boyhood club so late into his career.
