On this day in 2013 Liverpool beat Brendan Rodgers’ former side, Swansea City, 5-0 at Anfield.
Hosting the Welsh side for the first time since his arrival at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool were yet to pick up a win against the Swans, drawing 0-0 at the Liberty Stadium earlier in the 2012/13 season.
It was the skipper, Steven Gerrard who opened the scoring on the day, scoring from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark. Philippe Coutinho doubled Liverpool’s lead a minute into the second half, notching his first ever goal in a Red shirt since joining in January. Spanish left back Jose Enrique made it 3-0 less than 5 minutes later before Luis Suarez got his name on the scoresheet, seeing Liverpool score three goals in an electric 10 minute period to go 4-0 ahead. On the 70 minute mark Liverpool were awarded a second penalty which Daniel Sturridge calmly converted to see Liverpool earn a comfortable 5-0 win against Rodgers’ former club.
