On this day in 2007 Liverpool beat Sheffield United 4-0 at Anfield.
Coming off the back of a famous 2-1 win against Barcelona in Spain, Rafa Benitez’s Reds were looking to continue their fine form in the Premier League. In a lineup featuring debutant Javier Mascherano, Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch it was Anfield veteran Robbie Fowler of all people who made his mark on the game first. Netting a brace inside 25 minutes, both coming from the penalty spot, the number nine handed Liverpool a commanding two goal lead inside the first half.
Into the second half and once again Liverpool struck twice in quick succession, this time Finnish defender Sami Hyypia got his name on the scoreboard, firing a low shot past Blades keeper Paddy Kenny. Rounding off the victory Fowler aided the Reds once more, setting up Steven Gerrard to net his fifth league goal of the 2006/07 season.
