On this day in 2011 Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-1 thanks to a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick.
A quick-fire double from the deadly Dutchman in the first half saw Liverpool go 2-0 ahead. The first goal coming off the back of some astounding Luis Suarez trickery as he danced his way around the United defence to put it on a plate for Kuyt. His second came just five minutes after as a poor clearance saw the ball lofted into the air only for Deadly Dirk to nod the ball in, giving the Reds a two goal advantage.
It was just past the hour mark that Kuyt completed his historic hat-trick as a well struck Suarez free-kick was parried by Edwin van der Sar, but only as far as Kuyt who bundled in the rebound to make it 3-0. Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez managed to grab a late consolation goal for the Red Devils but it was far from enough as Dalglish’s Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners.
