On this day in 2012 a Steven Gerrard hat-trick saw Liverpool beat Everton 3-0.
The 2012 Merseyside Derby at Anfield was a special night for the Reds for number of reasons, not least the scoreline. On Gerrard’s 400th league appearance for Liverpool he marked it with a historic hat-trick over local rivals Everton.
The Liverpool skipper opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a beautifully lobbed shot over Toffees keeper Tim Howard. In the second half Gerrard doubled his tally for the day and the Reds lead, a mazy dribble from Luis Suarez teeing him up to smash the ball into the net. On the stroke of full time Gerrard completed his fifth Liverpool hat-trick, Suarez providing the assist once more, squaring the ball to Gerrard to make it 3-0 to the Red side of Merseyside.
