On this day in 2014 Liverpool played out a nine goal thriller against Cardiff, beating the Welsh side 6-3.
Amidst their title charge Brendan Rodgers’ side faced a trip to Wales to play Cardiff. The Reds were given a scare early on as the hosts went ahead twice inside the opening half hour. Jordon Mutch got the opener for the hosts and Luis Suarez’s equaliser was cancelled out by Fraizer Campbell on the 25 minute mark. Luckily before half time the Reds equalised once more through Slovakian centre back Martin Skrtel.
Into the second half and Liverpool came out swinging, both Luis Suarez and Martin Skrtel doubling their tallies for the day to make it 4-2 to the guests. Daniel Sturridge also got in on the act, netting on 75 minutes to add to the already high scoring affair. Cardiff’s Mutch managed to pull one back for the hosts but it was too little too late for the Welsh side. To cap the afternoon off for Liverpool, Suarez netted his third goal of the game in the dying seconds of the match, seeing the Reds run out comfortable 6-3 winners.
