On this day in 1983 Bob Paisley won his last ever trophy as Liverpool manager.
In a League Cup final against Manchester United, Liverpool were presented the opportunity to win the competition for the third year running. The pre-Sir Alex Fergusson era Manchester United were the first to strike on the day as Norman Whiteside gave the Red Devils the lead on 12 minutes.
Surprisingly enough it would be Alan Kennedy who would equalise for the Reds, making it 1-1 with little under 20 minutes left. After the full 90 minutes had passed the score remained 1-1, taking the game to extra time. Halfway through the first half of extra time Ronnie Whelan scored the decisive goal, seeing Liverpool take home their third League Cup trophy and the last piece of silverware won under the legendary Bob Paisley.
