As Liverpool legend and former manager Graeme Souness returned to Anfield as Blackburn boss the Reds were looking to return to winning ways following a 0-0 draw against Leicester. Michael Owen ensured the hosts got off to a flying start, netting twice inside the first 25 minutes with an own goal from Andy Todd separating Owens double to give Liverpool a 3-0 lead in the first half. Into the second half and England international Emile Heskey added a goal of his own to see Liverpool beat Blackburn 4-0, seeing them go fourth in the Premier League table, one point ahead of Newcastle in fifth.
