On this day in 2016 Liverpool overcame Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium.

Three days before the Merseyside Derby and 11 days prior to the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Villareal, Klopp fielded a second-string lineup against league newcomers Bournemouth. Handing a debut to Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward and fielding several other youngsters, the average age of the Liverpool lineup reached only 24.4 years of age.

The youthful starting 11 didn’t hinder Liverpool’s ability to get all three points however, as late first half goals from Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge were enough to see the Reds through to an away win ahead of their clash against Roberto Martinez’s Everton. Bournemouth were able to pull a goal back on 90 minutes through Joshua King, though it was too little to late for the Cherries as Liverpool ran out 2-1 victors.
