Sturridge and Liverpool started off as a beautiul love story. It just clicked. And then the injuries began. Since 2011…Sturridge has been out injured for over 640 days. Nearly 2 years on the sidelines due to, no fault of his own, his body’s persistent niggling injuries. Injuries that have now left him as a bit part player under Jurgen Klopp, which is truly sad to see as he is genuinely an incredible player when in full flow and fitness. Sturridge looks to be surplus to requirements when the Summer rolls around but who will replace him?
Top of the list for Liverpool, supposedly anyway, is Douglas Costa of Bayern Munich. The young Brazilian winger is unsettled by his lack of playing time at Bayern and is looking for greener pastures. Could the Brazilian duo of Firmino and Coutinho convince him to join? Highly likely but Champions League may be required. Assuming this is a signing that happens…it would mean that the replacement for Sturridge already exists within the current team…in the shape of Roberto Firmino.
