On this day in 2013 Liverpool beat Newcastle United 6-0 at St James’ Park.

With struggling Newcastle only five points from safety any result that saw the Magpies avoid defeat against Liverpool would’ve been ideal for Alan Pardew’s men. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t to be as Liverpool started off strong with Daniel Agger netting in the third minute of the match. Before the clock had struck 20 minutes Jordan Henderson had doubled the visitors lead, seeing them go into the half time break 2-0 up.

Liverpool new boy Daniel Sturridge got the Refs off to an equally good start to the second half, netting a brace inside the opening 15 minutes, seeing Brendan Rodgers’ men race to a four goal lead. Goals from Italian striker Fabio Borini and a free kick from Henderson capped off the victory in style seeing the Reds claim a 6-0 win, their biggest victory over Newcastle since 1967.
