In 1953, Liverpool player, manager and legend Graeme Souness was born. The Scotsman represented Liverpool for over 6 years after being purchased from Middlesbrough for just over £350,000 in 1978. Representing Liverpool for 6 seasons, Souness won 11 trophies including 3 European Cups and 5 league championships. The midfield maestro scored 55 goals in 359 games for the Reds.

This was a day to remember for Michael Owen too as he made his debut on this day in 1997. At 17, Owen’s star shone bright and he became an instant success, scoring 158 goals in 297 games for the Reds. Owen became the first British winner of the World Player of the Year trophy in 2001 since Kevin Keegan won it in 1979 before earning a move to the Galacticos of Real Madrid in 2002.
