On this day in 2011 a Maxi Rodriguez hat-trick helped Liverpool beat Fulham 5-2.
In the Monday night fixture at Craven Cottage Kenny Dalglish’s men ran riot against Mark Hughes’ Fulham. The game got off to a lightning quick start with Maxi scoring the Reds’ first inside the opening minute. A second from the Argentine winger inside the first 10 minutes saw the visitors double their lead, before Dirk Kuyt made it 3-0 within the first half.
Moussa Dembele and Steve Sidwell pulled goals back for the Cottagers but it was far from enough to quell the Liverpool attack with Maxi completing his hat-trick and fellow South American, Luis Suarez capping off the victory with a stylish finish. The 5-2 victory at Fulham was also cause for celebration for two specific players among the Liverpool ranks as Dirk Kuyt became the first player since Michael Owen (2002) to score in five consecutive Premier League games for the Reds. Also Jamie Carragher surpassed the likes of Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence in Liverpool’s all-time appearance charts, playing his 666th game for the Merseyside outfit. Only Ian Callaghan (857) had played more games than Carra.
