Heartbreak this time last year as Liverpool’s hope for Champions League football suffered its final blow with a 1-3 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League Final. Despite taking the lead through a fantastic Sturridge outside of the foot curling effort, Sevilla rallied in the second half with 3 unanswered goals through Gamiero and a double via Coke.
Liverpool were deservedly in the lead going into halftime but a complete switch in mentality in the defending champions Sevilla turned the game on its head within a minute of the restart. Alberto Moreno could say this is the game that ended his Liverpool tenure as all 3 goals could have been prevented via him but the whole team capitulated so the blame is not on Moreno. Sevilla deservedly won the game and claimed the winners medals which meant they had acces to the Champions League group stages for the 2016/17 season.
